May 20, 2008

Wow! It's COOL! Our forecast is for low 80's---what a blessed relief! We've had some pretty hot weather already for May and the plants are a'wiltin and a'whining.

The older grandkids are going to visit their paternal grandkids until next weekend, so our day off will be a little emptier than usual. Doc has a long list of 'things' he would like to accomplish (my plan is to veg out and work on the prayer shawl).

We have great news....the Lord has used the chemo to wipe out the cancer cells in my cousin's bone marrow. Just the first step in remission, but a promising one. Thank you to all who prayed (please don't stop).

I start at the Veteran's Hospital one day a week this Thursday. The hours are 8a to 4:30, so that will be an adjustment (I'm usually still in jammies and playing on the computer at 8a). They plan to put me on the patient education committee track---working for the nurse manager for the clinic. This is a great spot for me to check out whether I'd like a nursing job there....and for them to get a look at me, too.

The three friends all had a successful weigh-in yesterday. I lost 1.8 lbs., Alaska lost 3 and Idaho lost 1.4. It's a lot of work, but Weight Watchers always works and is tons of food. I rarely eat out anymore and I had a Jack in the Box Fajita Pita for dinner---had lots of points left over and didn't get them in before bed. Oops and oh well.

Don't know if you remember, but Doc had a car wreck in July of 2006. He was front car in a chain of rear-end collisions with the back car being driven by an under-aged driver breaking the law. His lawyer finally came up with a demand letter yesterday of $30,000. Doc and I both fell off our chairs (more power to 'em---hope he gets it!). That would certainly put a band-aid on the financial woes for the time being.

I turned in another paper bag of books to our local book exchange yesterday (we're all cleaning out garages). I turned in the years and years of Christian books we've been "collecting"....got a credit of several hundred dollars on my account to 'spend' when I get more books. Great deal and I highly recommend using a book exchange when you shed books---it pays off in the future. I can usually get four to six books for the price of one new paperback when using the exchange.

Another of my errands yesterday was to return a 5x7 "silver" picture frame---for some reason, one of the three matching turned black! I tried silver polish (the store eventually informed me it isnt' silver, but just silver-colored metal and polish won't work). They are considering whether to replace the frame for me. Fortunately, it's still one they carry.

Well, my knitting awaits. Hope you have a great day and that the Lord just blesses your socks off!
